The MOCCAS finished their outstanding season on a huge high by winning the gruelling Geographe Classic, a 60km marathon from Bunbury to Busselton. The Mandurah crew dominated from the start establishing a lead early in the hope of breaking the other teams and controlling the race. The tactic worked, the Mandurah paddlers pulled ahead of the pack and were never challenged winning in a time of 5hrs 8mins and a clear 8 mins in front of second. Check out the video of the race below.
In the crew were Linda and Dario Mestrovic, Terry Russell, Mack Nichols, Mel Rei, Gio, Galye Warnes, Jane Townsend, Ed Ericson, Colin and Julie Bartley. Julie did an outstanding job of staying in the canoe and paddle/sterring for the full 60kms.
The race capped of the most successful season the Mandurah Outrigger Canoe Club club has ever had. The “MOCCAS” dominated the season with both their men’s and mixed crews going undefeated in every race for the year and the club winning the prestigious State Champion Club trophy for a second year. The MOCCAS would like to thank their sponsors Paul Goldie from Southpoint Prestige and also Mark and Helen Hardie from Mandurah Manufacturing who were there support boat and crew for the Geographe Classic Race.
