The Bunbury to Dalyellup 30km Challenge

The Mandurah Outriggers have started the season in sizzling form wining all 3 of the opening races, firstly the Bridge to Bridge, then the Bay to Beach and just recently the 30km change over race hosted by the Wavemasters Club in Bunbury.

In near perfect conditions the pack of canoes left Kombana Bay and headed around the break wall and down the coast to Dalyellup the turn around point. There were changes over points about every 5 km along the coast where relief paddlers could swim out and change with paddlers in the canoe. The Mandurah crew tactfully missed the first change electing to paddle through and establish a solid lead. This was a good move giving us a strong 500m lead over West Coast and Freo. Heading to the half way mark into a slowly increasing SW sea breeze the Mandurah crew powered on slowly increasing the lead.

Two changes and the crew turned the half way mark and with the breeze behind them they headed back to Bunbury. They crew must have got a bit warm on the leg home because the decided to have a swim, yes they hulied or capsized. No problem a quick recovery and back in the race. It didn’t effect their lead at all they still won by over 6 minutes or 1km. Well done crew, in the team were Ed, Tyron, Dario (Mr Nipple Guard), Linda, Mac, Mel, Gayle, Colin and Julie.
